Marathon, Florida
Marathon: Travel Highlights and Environmental Updates 🌊
Marathon is a great stop on your way through the Keys, offering a blend of local charm, marine conservation, and delicious seafood. Here are some must-see spots and updates:
Water Quality Initiatives: Marathon has recently implemented measures to protect water quality, ensuring that visitors can enjoy the area’s clear, vibrant waters. These efforts are especially important for the local marine environment and for activities like snorkeling and diving. So if you’re heading out to one of Marathon’s beautiful beaches, rest assured you’ll be able to enjoy pristine, safe waters.
Turtle Hospital Tours: One of Marathon’s most unique attractions is the Turtle Hospital, where visitors can take a guided tour to learn about the hospital’s work rescuing and rehabilitating injured sea turtles. You’ll have the chance to see these magnificent creatures up close, hear about their journeys to recovery, and learn what you can do to help protect marine life. Tours are both educational and inspiring, making this a perfect stop for families and nature lovers.
Local Dining & Markets: Marathon has become a hub for fresh, local seafood. Stop by Keys Fisheries, a favorite among locals and travelers, where you can savor seafood right off the boat. Don’t miss their famous lobster Reuben! If you’re lucky enough to be in town during the Marathon Seafood Festival (coming in March), it’s a lively event where you can taste the best seafood the area has to offer, from stone crab claws to conch fritters.
